Robin took the king's horse. «Sir Abbot,» he said, «please stay for a time. We are yeomen of this forest. We live by shooting the king's deer, and we have no other way of living. But you have churches, and money from the people, and gold. Please give us some of your riches to give to poor people.»

The king answered him (король ответил ему): «I have only forty pieces of gold (у меня есть только сорок золотых монет). I have been with the king in Nottingham (я был с королем в Ноттингеме), and that took a lot of my money (а это потребовало = на это ушло много моих денег; to take — брать, хватать; требовать, отнимать). Robin took the forty pieces of gold and gave half to Little John (Робин взял сорок золотых монет и отдал половину Малышу Джону). Then he gave half back (после чего вернул половину; to give back — возвращать, отдавать). «Take this, Sir Abbot (возьми это, господин аббат),» he said. «You will need it (они тебе понадобятся). Look, this is his ring (взгляни, вот его кольцо).
