«Do you have any green cloth to sell me?» asked the king.

He and all his knights were soon dressed in Lincoln green. Then the king and his knights, with Robin Hood and his merry men, went to Nottingham.

The people of Nottingham saw a great number of men in green.

«Our king is dead (наш король мертв),» they thought (подумали они), «and Robin Hood has come to town (и Робин Гуд пришел в город). He has had enemies here (у него здесь есть враги; enemy — враг), and he has come to punish us (и он пришел, чтобы покарать нас; to punish — наказывать, карать, налагать взыскание).»

The king laughed (король расхохотался).

The people were glad when they saw the king (люди обрадовались, когда они увидели, что это был их король: «увидели короля»). They brought food and drink (они принесли еду и питье). Then they all — king, knights, townspeople and outlaws (после чего все они: король, рыцари, жители города и разбойники; town — город, городок) — ate and drank and sang happily (ели, пили и весело: «счастливо» пели /песни/; happy — счастливый, довольный; радостный, веселый; happily — успешно, удачно, счастливо; весело).

It was not a happy year for him (для него это был не очень счастливый год). The king was kind (король был добр), and the lords and knights listened to him and liked him (феодалы и рыцари слушали его и любили его). But London town was not the greenwood that Robin loved (но город Лондон не был тем зеленым лесом, который Робин так любил).
