When Robin reached the end of the bridge (когда Робин добрался до конца моста; to reach — протягивать, вытягивать; достигать, доходить), the huge man remained motionless, as if blocking the way (гигант оставался недвижимым, словно преграждая путь; motion — движение; жест, телодвижение; изменение позы; motionless — неподвижный, без движения; to block — заграждать, преграждать, препятствовать).

A narrow bridge crossed over the river, and a man was standing still on it. He was a huge man, more than two metres tall, and he was armed with a big thick quarterstaff.

When Robin reached the end of the bridge, the huge man remained motionless, as if blocking the way.

Robin Hood greeted him saying (Робин Гуд поприветствовал его, сказав), «Good morning sir (доброе утро, сэр). I want to get to the other side of the river (я хочу перейти на другой берег реки; to get to a place — попадать куда-либо, добираться до какого-либо места).»

The man still remained motionless (человек продолжал все так же неподвижно стоять; still — до сих пор, все еще; to remain — оставаться; оставаться в каком-либо состоянии), as if he hadn't heard or even noticed Robin (словно он не слышал или даже не заметил Робина; to hear — слышать).

Robin Hood grew angry (Робин Гуд рассердился; to grow — расти; делаться, становиться; angry — рассерженный, сердитый, разгневанный). He put an arrow to his bow, and said (он вложил стрелу в лук и сказал), «Let me come over the bridge (позволь мне пройти по мосту; to let smb. do smth. — разрешить, позволить кому-либо сделать что-либо; over — зд. указывает на движение через что-либо).»

Robin Hood grew angry. He put an arrow to his bow, and said, «Let me come over the bridge.»

«You're very brave (ты очень храбрый)!» the big man said sarcastically (насмешливо сказал высокий мужчина; sarcasm — сарказм; sarcastic — саркастический, язвительный; sarcastically — саркастически, с сарказмом, насмешливо). «You want to fight with your bow and arrow (ты хочешь сражаться своим луком и стрелами), while I only have a staff (тогда как у меня только дубинка)!»

«Are you good at using the staff (а ты умело пользуешься дубинкой; good — хороший; искусный, умелый; to be good at smth. — быть способным к чему-либо; staff — посох, палка; дубинка)?» Robin asked as he ran to some young trees and cut a strong staff for himself (спросил Робин, подбежав к нескольким молодым деревцам и срезав крепкую дубинку для себя; to run — бежать, бегать).
