По данным Шарлевуа, когда в мае месяце эта экспедиция провалилась, «старый корсар Коксон» и два других офицера отправились в соседнюю гавань Леоган к месье Деланду, майору Пти-Гоава, согласившись стать заложниками на период переговоров. С Эспаньолы капитан вернулся вместе с ямайской флотилией в Порт-Ройял.

После этого эпизода след Коксона окончательно затерялся. Согласно одной из версий, он поселился на острове Роатан в Гондурасском заливе или среди дружественных индейцев на материке, вместе с которыми продолжал совершать набеги на соседние испанские плантации.
